What does blogging do for you?
Submitted by Madeleine Rose.
It satisfies me in a way no other internet-based activity can. Twice a week it collects my laundry and does the ironing. On Sundays it does a roast with all the trimmings. It ensures that my nails are always perfectly manicured. It will go out in the rain to get me DVDs and popcorn if I'm feeling low. It never misses a round at the pub and it knows just how I like my crumpets. It laughs at my jokes and never leaves the seat up.
Oh blogging, how I love thee.
What did you learn in kindergarten that you wish you did a better job of applying to the way you live your life today?
At kindergarten I was told off for colouring people in yellow but I only did it because I didn't have a light pink pencil and red was too dark in living my life today I wish I could apply a better job of not colouring in people yellow when they wouldn't mind being red espeically if they've been in the sun for a long time if they were white to start off with.
That and constructing sentences.
How many houses have you lived in? How is where you live now different from where you grew up?
Thirteen.
1969-1971 - Flat in Earls Court - moved for my father's job
1971-1972 - Flat in Preston - moved before my brother was born
1972-1977 - House in Preston - moved for my father's job
1977-1989 - House in Chiswick - moved because was asked to leave
Jan89-April89 - Room in house in Southfields - moved because landlady was objectionable
May89-August89 - Flatshare in Shephards Bush - moved because flatmate wanted his best friend to move in
August89 - Room in house in Kingston - friend put me up while she was on holiday from uni
September89-March90 - Bedsit in Tooting - moved because I felt unsafe and bad memories
March90-June90 - Bedsit in Putney - moved because was offered cheaper bedsit
June90-September92 - Bedsit in Eaton Square - moved to live with boyfriend
September92-July94 - Flat in Fulham - moved to buy our first home
July94-March99 - 1 bed flat in Highgate - moved to buy a bigger home for kiddywinks
March99-present - 2 bed flat in Highgate
And next year we hope to move again (market permitting). I am hoping it will be my final move.
How is where I grew up different from where I live now? I can't say - where I grew up is different then from now - it's not really a comparison worth making. My parents bought their house in Preston for £5k - it was a beautiful five bedroom house overlooking a park. Five years later they sold it for £21k and moved down to London. Yes it was a lot of money in those days, but I would imagine it would take my dad about two years to make £21k back then - today, it would take me about 10 years to earn the market price for our two-bedroom flat. The housing market is bound to affect the neighbourhood you live in - there's no way that my parents would be able to afford the house my dad lives in now if they were in their 30s with three children and on a single income. It'll all end in tears again and I'm just hoping we'll be lucky with our house move.
(Yeah, yeah - who knew I was so ancient?)
What's your favorite midnight snack?
Submitted by Raina.
If I'm still up at midnight it's usually because I've been out on the lash. If I've been out on the lash, my favourite midnight snack is likely to be a kebab.
Are you a go-getter or do you wait for good things to happen to you?

I was waiting for a good QotD to come my way, but it looks like I'll have to go out and get one.
Sorry, that's not entirely fair, sleepybear - it's not as bad as some; I just wanted an excuse to shout at something and to be honest, I've been disappointed - couldn't you have asked something like,
"What is the wettest water you've ever put your hand in?"
"Tell us how you butter toast."
"How great is vox?"
"Show us how you kiss arse."
"What is the worst STD you've ever had and who gave it to you?"
"Have you been affected by suicidal thoughts recently? Bonus question: What did you do about them?!" ?
Welcome to a week of PMT.
(Mother's Day was lovely, by the way - homemade cards, lots of glitter, two new games for the DS and lunch at Bodeans - can't do a link for some reason. Arse.)
What's your method for packing a suitcase?
Seriously?
What is the point of QotD? I thought it was intended to inspire people who didn't know what to write to share an anecdote or two, maybe offer an insight into their lives, maybe get other people thinking, "I wonder what other people have answered to this one?" and read other people's blogs who they might not have read otherwise.
Now that there are six categories into which we can organise our posts there are five lame-o QotDs in each section, in addition to the usual main page US-centric offerings. And if you live outside the US, don't even bother thinking about answering the political QotDs. Oh, and if you venture by the 'culture' section, there are no fewer than 3 questions about the Super Bowl: What was your favourite part? What is your day like on Super Bowl Sunday? and What is your favourite Super Bowl recipie?
It just seems as though the QotDs are just there for the sake of having them, with Vox's intention to build up a sort of pseudo community, so when you get to the category pages, as well as a lovely photo, you have teasers like "Pooky tells us which type of grass he likes to watch grow" or "Sindi shares with us her hilarious trip to the colonic irrigation clinic". I'm guessing it can't be beyond the wit of someone who's getting paid to run Vox, if not to come up with their own good QotDs, at least vet the ones that get sent in.
I know that I'm one of those awful people who never suggest QotDs, but most of the time I'm so irritated by them that it just kills any motivation to create ones that aren't totally facetious. But anyway, here are mine, for you Vox North Londoners (apologies to anyone who lives outside the A406):
Were you affected by tubes not stopping at Euston on the Charing Cross branch at the weekend? Was it in a good way or a bad way?
Do you think the CPZ should be introduced on Hornsey Lane?
What is your favourite meal to order at Banners? What would you do if this wasn't on the menu?
How many people were waiting for the 263 this morning? Was this more or less than usual?
The next door's cat is missing [this is sad], What will you do to find it?
What have you changed your mind about?

Answering this.
What was the best movie you saw (in the theater or on DVD) you saw this weekend?
What?
You saw you saw?
I saw Esau sitting on a seesaw, Esau he saw me.
I won't see saw this weekend.
I didn't saw saw last weekend.
Wotcha chatting about QotD, with all your saw you saw you sawing?
I've typed saw too many times now.
My eyes are sore, eye sore, I saw, you see.
I'm going to lie down.
On a seesaw.
The seventh season of "American Idol" premieres tonight. Will you be watching, or are you over it?
I shall be doing both.
I shall be watching from above because when I heard that the seventh season of "American Idol" was premiering tonight, I literally died and went to heaven.
Have you ever done anything out of pure spite? What did you do?

There was this one time when my face was really pissing me off, so I cut my nose off.
That learned it.
